I dream my painting and I paint my dream. – Vincent van Gogh
Dreaming is the First Step in Visionary Leadership – But Not the Last One
It’s not how much you work, but how much you accomplish that’s important. Van Gogh created over 900 amazing paintings in a 3-year period. He had a very unhappy life which ended in tragedy. His painting still inspires us today, unlike any other painter. His genius was not appreciated until after his death.
What if he had decided to cave in to the negative advice of others and not focus on painting? What if he simply tried to create what was popular?
He didn’t give up. He faithfully followed his vision. He lived out the quote above by painting many dreams.
Everybody dreams. In school, we were discouraged when we wanted to dream in class. Now, as leaders, dreaming is essential to visionary leadership. Only 3% of the people who dream actually fulfill their dreams.
Leaders say that they have goals, but the goals are not written down or shared. Therefore, the goal is not a goal. It remains a dream.
Becoming successful in any type of leadership endeavor requires commitment on the part of the leader.
Write your goals.
Share your goals.
Create an action plan.
Begin immediately to act on the goal.
It sounds so simple. So, why don’t more people commit to success?
What will you do differently today to paint your dream?
